Analyzing 40 years of work upon turning 64.
May 7, 2024 is my 64th birthday. So on this not so solemn but actually pretty boring day, I actually decided to start analyzing the last 40 years of my work life.
I have recently been reading a fascinating book by Dr. Temple Gradin titled, ‘VISUAL THINKING’ Apart from helping me focus elements of my multidimensional learning theories, her personal and anecdotal stories from over the years pushed me to put numerous career reflections on paper.
Number of years analyzed: 40
Number of years — salaried work: 12
Number of years — contract work: 28
Number of distinct careers: 4
As with most of you ho have shifted careers, it is usually a bit of a gradual process. The key takeaway here is that education and training has been a common theme throughout my life. Going way back to grade 12 when, as a captain of your high school football team, I decided I wanted to try coaching and taught a bunch of local Scarborough kids how to play so they could join a league.
