#JohnWick_77_Challenge #15: Blogs About Id-4-Edu
When/Where started: MAR 2019 — Manila
How do (or even should) you blog about an online course?
Most of my articles on Linkedin or posts on Medium or vids on YT are about specific points or concepts related to teaching or learning, but not really selling anything. This was the first time I was trying to use a blog to call readers to a specific action. (Original Blog here)
In today’s gig economy jargon I am more a Creator than a Hustler. But in reality, as I look over the past 30 years…I am really a Solutions Generating Machine. Career wise, the more experienced I become, the more I seem to be attracted to organizations that are either starting something new or are in complete disarray. LOL
But this was new territory for me. How to promote a solution (via a three hour how-to course) to markets that can’t afford it. Sounds like a recipe for failure, doesn’t it. LMAO!
You will see from Challenge #14 that I was already posting numerous LB (lego type learning blocks) of my ID-4-EDU into Skillshare. But quickly realized the business model of SkillShare would not work for the markets I was targeting. Yes, you can list courses as free in Skillshare, but I was trying to test if the Skillshare approach might actually generate some income.
No it didn’t…for many reasons. But it forced me to do some serious research into Youtube because I had all these instructional videos of how to use InDesign for creating lessons just sitting there in Skillshare doing nothing. So I decided to set up another playlist and start posting them.
Thus my blog became more of a print version of my intro video (Program Overview / Course Intro). It talked about the rationale for doing it and how areas of the world like Afric and Asia could benefit from it.
Has it generated lots of subscriptions????? Not yet. But here in July 2020 my YT channel has opened the door for professionals in India, Middle East and Africa to participate in many Zoom meetings around the globe to discuss alternative approaches to education — especially in light of Covid 19.
ACTION POINT: Don’t be afraid to pivot. Many tech companies pivot too fast…but if you see our initial approach is not correct, change course.
