Meaning Making: Beliefs of the knower.
Beliefs [acceptance of something as truth without proof, that influence one’s values and morals]
The flow of information (sensations) is further influenced / screened / molded based on the beliefs of the knower.
We organize sensations based on our current beliefs. These beliefs [acceptance of something as truth without proof, that influence one’s values and morals] have a profound impact on how we filter data.
The very first professor I had in 1981 started his class with this diagram on the board.
He then gave us an intense 20-minute talk on ‘presuppositions. Basically, how our ideas and beliefs impact how we interpret data, events, or ‘facts’.
His main point being we are never as objective as we think we are, AND that we have many deeply ingrained beliefs that we never question.
